Calling all Decorators, or Otherwise...

You know who you are...you extremely talented individuals who decorate, or organize, or just have the best ideas in the entire world!! I need your help!! I have an EXTREMELY large "shelf" in my front room that I am at a loss of what to do with. I need some inspiration or creative ideas on how to dress it up! I want to get a HUGE pot and put something in it (is that lame?), but what else? Tell me your thoughts, ideas, suggestions etc. Thanks...

PS Ignore the big blue ball. My kids threw it up there, I guess that is their decor pick!

Shannon, my only tip, which I meant to tell you on Sunday, is that I don't think you should decorate to the window. People outside aren't going to see stuff up there unless its really big and only people coming down the stairs will see all the way to the window. So I would just decorate close to the edge that will show in the living room. Some ideas: greeenery or plants, I've seen cute rustic looking ladders, a big picture on an easel... I'm not a good decorator so I don't know why I'm offering advice.

so I'm just trying to get a feel for this? Is it above your door? I'm going to send you an email with some pictures of my ideas, for what they're worth. Maybe I'll just have to make a trip up and we can decorate together.

I was just reading the funny sayings of Wes on your blog too and cracking up. Probably my fault he calls seaweed broccoli. At the reunion we saw some seaweed that looked just like broccoli. i don't know if he was with me when I was talking about it, but it sounds like maybe he was. I took a picture, I'll send it along too :D just what you wanted.

Maybe a fake tree/house plant, and add one of those cute hand painted signs on the piece between the stories.

definitely something(s) tall and definitely some accent lighting to make it more dramatic.

love the ladder idea. you could have some ivy and stuff kind of coming down the ladder and down along the bottom of the sill. You could put lots of wheat-type stuff in a big pot, like you mentioned, or something tall and interesting to lead your eye up to accentuate the height.

Can't WAIT to see what you do with it! What a fun area!

I think you should use it as a play area ;)

How aboput a place for "time out." Then they would love to be there. You could even put a ladder up to get to it.
